Mint Jules (a mint julep with a zing)

A nice twist on the Derby Day tradition.

3 lime slices
10 mint leaves
2-1/2 oz Maker’s Mark bourbon
1 oz simple syrup (equal parts sugar and water, boiled and cooled)

Muddle lime slices with mint leaves in a shaker. Add bourbon, syrup, and another dash of lime. Shake with ice and strain into a chilled cocktail glass. Top with soda and garnish with fresh mint.
