Oatmeal Crunches

According to the 1972 cookbook we borrowed from Tina Morrison, entitled Cool Cooking: Recipes of Your Favorite Rock Stars, this was the Osmonds’ favorite “all-American” cookie recipe. Thirty-four years later, the cookies still taste great, but I’m not so sure about the Osmonds.

1 C butter
1 C brown sugar, packed
1 C sugar
1 t vanilla
2 eggs
1-1/2 C flour
1 t salt
1 t baking soda
3 C quick oats
3/4 C chocolate chips, walnuts, or coconut

Combine butter and sugars and beat until fluffy. Add vanilla. Then beat in the eggs, one at a time. Combine the baking soda, salt, and flour, and add this to the butter and egg mixture. Stir in the oats and chocolate, walnuts, or coconut.

Drop teaspoons of the dough on a greased cookie sheet, about 2 inches apart. Bake at 350 F for 10-15 minutes, until golden brown. Makes 7 dozen cookies.
